Discipleship

If you have come to believe that Jesus is the son of God and that he died for you on the cross then you have been called to ministry! ‘You are an ambassador for Christ.’ In Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus tells his disciples, ‘Go therefore & make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.’ Discipleship is not an optional extra but is Jesus’ command to all believers. The word ‘disciple’ means a learner or student. We are to grow in our faith and to help others grow in faith. We are called into full time Christian service and that includes both taking part in the common life of the church and also responding to God’s activity in the world through our service to others.

Hilton church is taking the task of making students, making disciples of Jesus seriously. In order to do that we firmly believe that every ‘part of the body’ needs to roll their sleeves up and have their hands in the ‘mud’ of ministry. To this end all of the work and ministry of Hilton Church has been divided between 5 teams. These teams are;

Worship
Administration
Service
Outreach
Discipleship

Under the banner of 'Discipleship' are Home-groups, Sunday Club, Kingdom Kids, Creche, Teen Scene, Nite life, The Guild & the Libraries (adults & childrens.) There are many involved in these areas of work and any issues in relation to these areas should in the first instance be brought to the attention of those who lead the various groups. The leaders would then inform the Discipleship team.

The Team

The Discipleship team consists of Rachel MacInnes, Jamie Grant, Hector Morrison & Barry Dennis. Their task is to oversee the groups in the sense of encouraging and resourcing, advising and also helping to en-vision the future direction of these works. The Discipleship team is answerable to the Kirk Session.
